Project Overview:

This client wanted help with a multi-functional room, a “flex space” as she called it, where she wanted to have a comfortable lounge seating for watching TV, a bed for occasional guests, and an inspiring atmosphere for her office on wheels—a mobile desk, chair and filing cabinet, which she could move in and out of the room easily. She desired colors and patterns that stimulate the senses and wanted to have a striking background for her Zoom calls.

A sofa bed with storage and a lift-top storage ottoman affords hidden comfort. The dynamic Modern Wood wallpaper, whose patterns are echoed in the shimmering rug, provides a suitable backdrop for the shadow box full of felt flowers that anchors the focal wall. Pops of burnt orange and mustard enliven the color scheme dominated by the earthy tones of brown, green and cream.

Countering the softness exuded by the rug and upholstery are glossy ceramic and metal surfaces. On the opposite wall, the undulating reflective doors of the credenza, the wavy patterns on the pots, and the ocean-themed art above introduce the idea of water. All earth-and-sea-symbolic elements work together to create a space that’s both relaxing and exhilarating. (A TV set was missing at the time of the photo shoot.)
