Living Room Makeover

Project Overview:

In this open-floor multi-function room in a rental loft apartment, I had to work with the existing TV setup and stand, fireplace stove, wall sconces and photography pieces. The natural wood and black metal materials of the TV stand guided the selection of the tables and chairs. The brown leather on the accent chairs and throw pillows harmonize in color with the wood and expand upon the natural theme. The blue sectional sofa and oversized art piece above it form the focal point of the room. The painting draws the eye up towards the 19-foot-tall ceiling, and its heavily textured abstract style coexists comfortably with the black-and-white photography of cityscapes on the other walls. The blue, ivory, brown and black colors spread around the room find their summary expression in another oversized painting. The repetition of colors, materials and shapes creates a rhythm that leads the eye around the room, making the viewer appreciate its harmony.
